Late Nights
Daniel has been getting up a lot at night lately.
First it was a cold - he’d get stopped up and couldn’t breathe. Next, his teeth appeared to take over as culprit. More recently, I think it is just the changes here at home, with Randall no longer home four nights out of seven.
I don’t mind getting up with him. I pick him up and truthfully, he is usually back to sleep within 5 minutes, as he just needed soothed/reassured. But, I usually hold him for 20-30 minutes. I like sitting on the couch and watching him, bathed in the steaked light from the streetlights coming in through the slats in the blinds. I look at his eyelashes resting on his cheeks, I watch and feel him breathing. I know its the closest thing I will ever come to holding an angel here on earth.
I know the day will come, sooner than I think, when he is 16 or 17, spending his days with friends, or in his room, not wanting to be bothered by his ol Mom. So, during this time, I will not only take, but relish the sloppy wet kisses, the “Aayyee yove yooo”, the “Mmmama, Mama, MmmMama” that can last for anywhere from 30 seconds to three minutes incessantly.
I am so in love with my baby boy. Thank you God, for giving me an angel of my very own here on earth.
